We have successfully completed an energy saving project

On 20 June, the Na Homolce Hospital officially completed one of the largest and most comprehensive energy saving projects in the Czech healthcare sector. The ambitious project took just one year to complete and brought the hospital energy cost savings of up to 40%. The hope for the people with Parkinson disease

The treatment by Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) helps Czech patients since 29 years ago. Interventional Cardiology today put into operation the renovated catheterization rooms, including two new angiolines.

The Na Homolce Hospital has completed the reconstruction of the catheterisation rooms in the interventional cardiology department and today put into operation two state-of-the-art angiography systems. They will provide patients with invasive diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and some extra-cardiac diseases. Both systems offer the use of advanced imaging techniques such as intravascular ultrasound or optical coherence tomography or special 3D imaging applications of cardiac structures and arteries.

Resuming operation of the vaccination centre

On Friday, August 19, we will resume operation of the vaccination centre for the public with standard health insurance for vaccination of the second booster doses against covid-19. At the same time, we continue to vaccinate foreigners/self-payers with permanent or temporary residence in the Czech Republic who do not have public health insurance. These vaccinations will take place on the 5th floor near the pharmacy and foreigners' reception.

This year we celebrate 30 years of Gamma Knives in the Czech Republic

Today it is exactly 30 years since the Leksell Gamma Knife arrived in Czechoslovakia, three days later it was taken over by the Department of Stereotactic and Radiation Surgery at the Na Homolka Hospital, and on 26 October 1992 the first patient was operated on with the new technology at Homolka. In thirty years, doctors at Homolka have performed 24,000 operations with the Leksell Gamma Knife.

We opened new modern gastroenterology premises

Epilepsy is not a stigma, the most severe cases are helped by surgery

People who have epilepsy can lead normal lives. The disease is not a stigma and medication works for a large proportion of patients. Several dozen patients with severe epilepsy a year undergo brain surgery in which surgeons remove the part of the brain responsible for seizures. Doctors at the Na Homolce Hospital are now working on a method that has so far been presented by only two world centres. It consists in not removing the so-called hippocampus, which is the trigger of seizures, but just cutting across it with several incisions. This way, people's memory is preserved and the seizures disappear. Martin Kovář, head of the neurology department at Homolka, said this in an interview with ČTK.

A record 1,200 patients treated with a gamma knife in 2020

Despite a number of operational limitations related to the covid-19 epidemic, we continue to provide our patients with the best possible care. In the department of stereotactic and radiation neurosurgery, we treated 1,200 patients in 2020, which is a record number in the 28-year history of the department. In addition, last year we significantly renewed the "GammaPlan" planning software and expanded it with the "Lightning" module.

Homolka Obtains SAK Accreditation

Na Homolce Hospital successfully passed the accreditation procedure of the Joint Accreditation Committee (SAK), in which it proved that it meets all quality and safety standards in accordance with the provisions of Section 105 of Act No. 372/2011 Coll., on Health Services and Conditions of their Provision, and Decree No. 102/2012 Coll., on Evaluation of Quality and Safety of Inpatient Health Care. On the basis of this procedure, the hospital was awarded a SAK certificate of the accredited facility.

First deep brain stimulation in Czechia was performed 20 years ago

Today, I has been 20 years since a new treatment using deep brain stimulation was successfully introduced in the Na Homolce Hospital. This was done in cooperation with the Department of Neurology of the 1st Medical School, Charles University, and General Teaching Hospital in Prague. This department presently continues to administer the Center for Intervention Therapy of Mobility Disorders (iTEMPO). On March 26, 1998, a stimulation electrode was implanted into the brain of a patient who suffered from essential tremor. The lifetime of a stimulation electrode (stimulator) is approximately 5 years. Since then, almost 300 patients have had stimulators placed or exchanged. Approximately 1000 stimulator implantations and subsequent re-implantations have been performed.
